History of the World
Engaging World History Lessons
This course offers a sweeping overview of the history of the world from prehistoric times to the modern era, while at the same time encouraging students to improve their reading comprehension and critical-thinking skills.
Starting in early pre-history and moving through time and around the globe, we will pay special attention to the ways that differing environments, migration patterns, and social arrangements influenced pre-historic and historic peoples: their cultural practices, their languages, their religious beliefs, their daily lives, their relationships with the natural environment, and the artifacts they made and left behind for us to discover.
Students will learn to:
-
understand major civilizations, cultures, and historical periods
-
unravel historical cause and effect
-
compare cultures and societies
-
evaluate and use evidence from texts, maps, artifacts, and images
-
build academic vocabulary and reading comprehension
Class materials vary by course. They include textbooks, articles, and supplementary materials appropriate to students' individual reading levels. Courses focus on different periods of world history. Because this history course also aims to develop students' critical reading skills, EFL learners are very welcome to attend.
*Currently only available as a group class of 2-6 students.
Class duration is one hour.
This course is offered as a 16-class semester.
