Frequently Asked Questions
How can I schedule a class?
To schedule a class, just send us a message by email or on 微信, and we'll be in touch with you directly. We will work with your family's schedule to find class times that are convenient for you!
Do you work with bilingual or international students?
Yes. Many of our students are bilingual, multilingual, or learning English in an international context. We regularly work with students from Chinese-speaking, Spanish-speaking, and international school backgrounds.
What if I can't use Zoom?
We are happy to work with you to find a hosting platform that fits your needs. In addition to Zoom, we are able to host classes on other platforms such as Zhumu 瞩目, VooV, or others. We offer direct communication with parents and/or students via email or WeChat to troubleshoot and solve any technical issues that may arise.
Do you offer a free trial class?
Yes! We are happy to offer a free 60-minute trial class and assessment to all new students before they elect to enroll in core courses. This allows us to evaluate students' levels and needs, and it lets you experience our teaching styles to ensure your teacher is a great fit for you!
How do group classes work?
Group classes are offered on a limited basis, based on current enrollment. If you're interested in a group class, please reach out! The more interest we have, the more group classes we will schedule.
How do you decide the right class level?
We begin with a free trial lesson and assessment. During that session, we look at the student’s current skills, learning goals, strengths, and areas for growth. All our Private 1:1 lessons and Small-Group Classes are adjusted to match the students.
What if I need to miss a scheduled class?
When you enroll in a class, your teacher will send you the cancellation policy. This may vary based on individual classes or group classes. We will always offer to cancel or reschedule classes in case of unforeseen emergencies. For planned absences, just let the teacher know in advance, and we will work with you as best we can!
How do I pay?
Payment is made when classes are reserved. We utilize a variety of secure payment platforms to best accommodate our students, including PayPal and Zelle. Once you schedule a class, we will contact you directly to help arrange a payment method that works for you.
Do I need to buy materials?
Your teacher will provide all materials you will need to complete classwork and homework. For novel reading classes, students should purchase paperback copies of the novels.
Do students receive homework?
Yes. Homework depends on the course, but many classes include reading, writing, study guides, grammar practice, vocabulary work, or revised drafts. Homework is designed to support progress without overwhelming the student.
What technology does my child need for online classes?
Students need a computer or tablet, a stable internet connection, and a quiet place to work. Most classes use Zoom, along with Google Drive for shared documents, PDFs, or online assignments. We can offer alternatives if needed. We will let families know in advance if a specific book, workbook, or other material is required.
