Sudoku

6-week course | Small group: 2–6 students
Levels: Grades 3–5 and Grades 6–8

Sudoku is more than just a fun puzzle. It helps students strengthen focus, patience, pattern recognition, and step-by-step reasoning through increasingly challenging puzzles.

Students learn practical solving methods such as scanning rows, columns, and boxes; finding the only possible number for a space; identifying the only possible place for a number; using elimination; and marking possible candidates with clear annotations.

As students progress, they will be introduced to more advanced Sudoku strategies, as appropriate, such as naked pairs, hidden pairs, pointing pairs, box-line reduction, X-wings, swordfish patterns, and other logical techniques. Students learn how to use pencil marks, organized notes, and careful visual tracking to solve puzzles without guessing.

The class is designed to feel fun and satisfying while helping students build logical reasoning, mental flexibility, attention to detail, and confidence with complex problem-solving.
